Family Choice and Ed Tech of WNY Doing Good for the WNY Community
Today’s laptop is yesterday’s chalkboard. Imagine, if you dare, your child’s school not having the technology to teach. Unfortunately, there are schools in WNY with just this unthinkable crisis.
Back in 2003, a group of passionate IT professionals saw the need to improve access to modern computer technology and helped one Buffalo school in desperate need of IT help. Fast forward to today and this 100% volunteer non-profit organization, Ed Tech of WNY, has helped more than 150 schools, organizations, and community centers in WNY.
This summer Family Choice Leadership announced to the staff that 33 out-of-warranty laptops were going to be made available for purchase with 100% of the proceeds going to a local charity. In a search to find the charity, Leadership’s outreach to IVR and Data Sure connected them with Nate Nemec, employed by Data Sure and Ed Tech of WNY Board Member. A meeting with Leadership and Nicole Walter, CEO at Ed Tech of WNY, confirmed the perfect match for our donation.
In early September, Ed Tech of WNY received $3,600 (staff purchases of 18 laptops), the remaining 15 laptops, and eight (8) docking stations. How did Ed Tech of WNY use the $3,600?
- Notre Dame Academy – Buffalo, NY
- $1,500 – three new switches for a new phone system
- Archbishop Walsh Academy – Olean, NY
- $900 – 8 aps
- $1,200 – 3 port switches
What we have seen in a matter of weeks is how fast we can move and make decisions when we want to affect change for our WNY Community. This is a very proud moment for everyone at Family Choice of New York!
